World Cancer Day 2023 is approaching! The REBECCA Project Team is Excited to Support the Cause!
Cancer is a devastating disease that continues to impact the lives of millions of people across the globe. Although cancer can be treated and managed, many patients and their loved ones often feel overwhelmed in the aftermath of such a diagnosis.
Cancer treatments can be a long and challenging journey for both the person affected by cancer, as well as their families and carers. Families of cancer patients often find themselves in the difficult position of providing emotional and practical support to the patient while dealing with the emotional and physical exhaustion of the diagnosis. As such, families need to be provided with much-needed support.
Post-cancer treatments can help people cope with their cancer journey and move forward in their lives.
To this end, clinical and technological universities, industry leaders, public health experts, and patient associations are working together in the REBECCA project to improve research and post-cancer treatment, and thus to contribute to better patient outcomes.
REBECCA is an EU-funded scientific project that combines real-world data from multiple sources with clinical data for the above-mentioned objectives.
Science has the power to benefit cancer patients and improve their lives in many ways, but it is only through effective communication that it can be spread to the public. World Cancer Day Campaign is one of those opportunities.
As part of the WCD campaign, we are proud to join in supporting cancer patients and raising awareness about their plight. It is also an opportunity for us to introduce the REBECCA Project to the wider cancer community.
World Cancer Day marks an important day in the international calendar and is an annual event, celebrated on the 4th of February every year, intending to raise awareness and education about cancer, its causes, early diagnosis, treatments, and prevention. The event is also intended to reduce the stigma associated with cancer.
WCD is a chance for people around the world to unite, show their support for those affected by cancer, and take action against the disease.
This year, the theme for World Cancer Day is “Close the Care Gap”, which is about uniting individuals, organisations and projects such as REBECCA in calling for change and taking action to reduce the inequities that exist in accessing quality cancer care services worldwide.
There are hundreds of activities taking place around the world that we encourage you to join, including UICC’s 5k Challenge, encouraging people to close a loop of 5 km by running, cycling, swimming, hiking, walking or other means.
In the run-up to World Cancer Day 2023, the European Commission and the Swedish Presidency of the Council of the European Union are co-organising a high-level, hybrid conference on cancer. The conference takes place on 1 February under the title Equity, excellence and innovation – modern cancer care for all, Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan – eradicating inequalities within cancer care. Don’t miss it, REBECCA Project Team will also follow it closely!
