Garmin recognizes the value of REBECCA’s novel indicators

October 28, 2022

On 30 September, Dr Konstantinos Kyritsis from the Multimedia Understanding Group (MUG), Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki presented the REBECCA project at the Garmin Health Summit ‘22. In his presentation, Dr Konstantinos Kyritsis focused on modelling eating behaviour with smartwatches, one of the many novel components of REBECCA.

Konstantinos showcased the need for novel indicators in clinical operations that go beyond step-counters and can capture deeper changes in how patients/survivors function in everyday life, e.g., eating behaviour. The latter is something that regulatory bodies, like the FDA, are placing as hard constraint when validating clinical outcomes.

Garmin Health Nomination

At Garmin Health Summit 2022, the Garmin solution of REBECCA was nominated for an award in the Healthcare category. The Garmin awards program recognizes innovative solutions that successfully integrate Garmin wearable technology into health and wellness programs. In this line, the Garmin solution of REBECCA was recognized as one among the most unique programs with the most innovative solutions.

Garmin Health Award Entry List

October is a Pink Month

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and this year the REBECCA project joins efforts with Garmin Health.

REBECCA project collaborates with the Garmin Health team: REBECCA will combine clinical data with Garmin smartwatch-informed insight describing patients’ real-life behaviour, including physical activities, eating habits, sleep and stress.

Thanks to Garmin smartwatches, researchers can easier define and implement a functional index regarding the overall physical activity of breast cancer patients, helping to understand a patient’s overall health and well-being.
