REBECCA Consortium consists of clinical and technological universities, industry leaders, public health experts, and patient associations who will work together over the course of 4 years to shape guidelines and practices for post-cancer treatment.

Aristotle University of Thessaloniki

The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) is the largest university in Greece, founded in 1925 and comprising of 12 faculties and 42 schools. The university has an enrollment of 81,500 students, 72,140 of which participate in undergraduate programmes and 8,360 in postgraduate programmes, covering multidisciplinary scientific fields. The teaching and research staff numbers more than 2,700 people. The main university campus is located close to the centre of Thessaloniki and covers more than 23 hectares. AUTH will be represented by the Multimedia Understanding Group with a long record of collaboration in EU Research and Development projects.

Karolinska Institutet

Karolinska Institute (KI), founded in 1810, is Sweden’s only university especially focusing on biomedical sciences. In addition, KI awards the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine annually. KI ranks as one of the world’s leading medical universities, thanks in part to the quality of its research activities, which today account for 40% of all medical research in Sweden. KI has about 4,800 full-time employees, nearly two-thirds of whom are female. Some 80% of KI’s income is devoted to research, distributed among some 600 research groups covering all medical fields. KI provides excellent postgraduate training with 2,200 registered PhD students from around the world who are active in both basic and clinical research. Research at KI has a strong European dimension, being involved in more than 500 FP6 and FP7 projects in the past. Also, KI has to date been awarded more than 130 contracts within Horizon 2020.

Stavanger University Hospital

Stavanger University Hospital is the only hospital in the large area of south Rogaland on the west coast of Norway. The catchment area of the hospital is ca. 360,000 inhabitants, the hospital has 785 beds and nearly 8,000 employees. Research is one of the main four tasks for the hospital and cancer is one of the major topics. SUH maintains a breast cancer research group, with multidisciplinary participation from different hospital departments, including researchers from the Pathology, Oncology, Surgery and Research departments, and is currently headed by Dr Kristin Jonsdottir. The group’s stated goal is to diminish suffering for breast cancer patients due to under- and over-treatment, following the motto ‘from molecules to the whole human being’ and actively covers both translational studies and research on breast cancer survivors.

Fundación para la Investigación del Hospital Clínico de la Comunidad Valenciana (INCLIVA)

Fundación para la Investigación del Hospital Clínico de la Comunidad Valenciana (INCLIVA) is among the top 10 biomedical research institutes in Spain. It is organised around four priority areas of research: cardiovascular, oncology, metabolism and organic damage, and reproductive medicine. INCLIVA is included in the framework of centres of scientific excellence promoted by the Spanish Government, and it has been accredited by the National Health Institute Carlos III as an Institute of Research in Health Sciences. INCLIVA is the institution managing the research in the area of health carried out from the University of Valencia (School of Medicine), the IGENOMIX Foundation devoted to the reproductive genetics and the University Clinic Hospital that includes a health department providing healthcare to the 350,000 inhabitants with an Electronic Health Record that virtually covers the whole population of the department.

Centre for Research and Technology Hellas

The Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH), founded in 2000, is the only research centre in Northern Greece, and one of the largest in the country. CERTH has notable scientific and technological achievements in many areas including: energy, environment, industry, mechatronics, information and communication, transportation and sustainable mobility, health, biotechnology, smart farming, safety and security, as well as several cross-disciplinary scientific areas. Today CERTH includes the following five institutes with indicated major fields of research: Chemical Process and Energy Resources Institute (CPERI), Information Technologies Institute (ITI), Hellenic Institute of Transport (HIT), Institute of Applied Biosciences (INAB), Institute for Research and Technology Thessaly (IRETETH). CERTH participates in the REBECCA project through ITI.

Harokopio University of Athens

Established in 1991, the Harokopio University of Athens (HUA) is a non-profit, public, higher education institution located in Athens. HUA offers undergraduate certificates/diplomas, bachelor degrees in several areas of study. It has a selective admission policy based on entrance examinations. HUA also provides several academic and non-academic facilities and services to students, including a library, study abroad and exchange programmes, and administrative services. According to the National Documentation Centre study, HUA is among the top 4 Greek universities, which continuously publish highly acknowledged work with an impact above the world’s average.

European Health Management Association

The European Health Management Association (EHMA) is a Belgium based non-profit membership organisation that focuses on enhancing the capacity and capability of health management to deliver high-quality healthcare. EHMA’s vision is to support the spread of knowledge on excellence in health management at all levels: systemic, organisational and individual. In doing so, they strive to improve the sustainability and effectiveness of health systems and services, and the well-being of Europe’s citizens and communities. EHMA operates at an international, European and national level, with a membership of over 50 organisations and 30+ individuals, and a broader network in excess of 1,000 key stakeholders ranging from managers, educators, professionals and more. The Breast Cancer Society Amazona

The breast cancer society Amazona was founded in 1978 and is the oldest local association in Sweden. It is one of 33 local breast cancer associations which are all part of the umbrella organisation The Swedish Breast Cancer Association. Amazona is a non-profit, non-political and non-religious association. Its office is based in Stockholm and it has 3 employees. Most of the association’s activities are run by volunteers (currently around 80). Amazona’s main purpose is to support those who suffer from breast cancer as well as their close relatives, and to spread knowledge about breast cancer and the importance of an early diagnosis, but without giving medical advice. Another purpose is to work for an improved diagnosis, care and rehabilitation for patients through influencing health care professionals and politicians. The association is also able to convey the patients’ points of view through education of health care personnel.
